a classic PSX game in the vein of Mega Man. It looks amazing, from the gameplay to the combat—everything! Even so, I’m really looking forward to its release.
Notes: * I really enjoyed the ruins. * The exterior needs some additional polish. You can get very far into either side of the river and the water texture will disappear. There was also a corner of water texture that was slightly above the river itself. * The ledge grab was a bit nerve-wracking. I kept feeling like I wasn't going to catch the ledges. There were several times where I shouldn't have been able to make the jump, but it automatically grabbed the ledge anyway. Maybe increase the height of the jump by a tiny amount to fix the gap issue might work. * I really wanted a "hello," or something similar from the bird robot. Having an extra screen to click through would be annoying, but maybe some text as you hover above each option would give it more flavor.
I have been collecting more suggestions and they are roughly in the same direction. The next update will have some gameplay refinements and maps like the Woods have been redesigned, since it wasn't up to par. I'll review the ledge grab a bit more.
There will be also like 15min more worth of gameplay.
A fun start to the story! I think you've nailed the aesthetics and are on your way to getting the feel right. Here are my notes
- Dash jump is always a good option, I like it!
- Only grabbing ledges when facing them took a bit of getting used to.
- Special weapons seemed balanced well for the demo.
- Not being able to fire while running backwards is a fair choice, though it did feel limiting.
- It wasn't clear that the run speed bonus disabled the dash, which made the boss a bit more frustrating but still manageable.
- The companion was cute and a good choice.
- The difficulty could be increased by having enemies (esp. the boss) do additional damage.
- The sound balancing was a bit jarring, mostly the pickups and shots. Having the volume controls in percentage instead of increments could help with this!
- I will hope that the skates make an appearance in the game, or something similar (improved dashing with less cooldown or the like)
Overall, I would happily pay for a full version at this point as I can see a lot of potential, and you have a great sense for the feel that you're going for. Thank you for sharing your efforts, and I look forward to what you share next! 💜
I've received similar feedback and making adjustments to gameplay. Not shooting backwards is intentional (to avoid trivializing fights), but on gamepad it does block you easily due to how joysticks work. I'm fixing that.

This was a kick in the nostalgia!
